Signs My Audi’s Automatic Transmission Is Going Bad

Bring your Audi to European Fix at the first sign of automatic transmission trouble. We are going to list the common symptoms of an automatic transmission that is going bad. The sooner we repair the problem the less damage to the transmission.

Slips Into Neutral

If your Audi suddenly loses power and the engine’s RPMs spike, the transmission has slipped out of gear and gone into neutral by itself. The transmission should always stay in gear. Slipping out of gear is a sign that it needs immediate attention.

Won’t Shift Gears

Slipping out of gear can also be a preview of what’s to come. Your Audi may refuse to shift through the gear cycle as the transmission gets worse. Before it refuses outright, it may hesitate to shift from one gear to the next even though it is time to do so.

Won’t Go Into Gear

Your transmission is severely damaged if your Audi will not go into gear. The transmission will fail to respond and go into Drive or Reverse when you move the gear shift on your center console. You will need to have your Audi towed to our shop.

Overheating/Leaks

Another sign that the transmission is damaged is if it starts to overheat. The most common reason why an Audi’s transmission will overheat is that it has a fluid leak. When the transmission fluid is reduced in the transmission, it will get too hot.

Strange Noises

You may also hear strange noises coming from your Audi’s transmission if it needs to be repaired. The most common noise a faulty transmission will make is humming in neutral. You may also hear your transmission grind as it shifts gears.

Vibration/Shaking

You shouldn’t hear any strange noises nor should your Audi vibrate or shake when the transmission is in operation. If the Audi jolts with each gear shift, head straight to our shop. Your transmission fluid level could be too low or the transmission could be malfunctioning.

Check Engine Light

Finally, the Audi’s engine control unit will turn on the check engine light if it receives a malfunctioning code from the transmission sensor. The engine control unit cannot repair the transmission, so it will turn on a check engine warning so that you know something is wrong.

Call European Fix in Clinton Township, MI, today to schedule a transmission service appointment for your Audi if the automatic transmission is doing any of the things listed above.
